Cambridge Environmental Research Consultants (CERC) in cooperation with Estonian, Latvian & Lithuanian Environment, Riga City Council and Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia has launched air quality alert service Riga airTEXT. It provides air quality alerts by SMS text message, e-mail and voice message, or it is possible to download the app directly on the mobile phone.4
To develop alerts and forecasts, the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) has been used. The CAMS combines information form satellite and ground observations with modelling to provide daily updates on the state of the atmosphere in terms of pollen, NO2, ozone, particulate matter and a range of other pollutants, world-wide but with a particular focus on Europe. AirTEXT has been developed from the user’s perspective, combining CAMS information with local emission data and a high-resolution forecast model.
