IES teaches to use Earth observation for strategic decision making

The Institute for Environmental Solutions (IES) in cooperation with European Space Agency and Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia provides support for key decision-makers to raise awareness of Earth observation and Remote Sensing use in different areas – regional and urban planning, forestry, agriculture, control and monitoring of marine and emergency situations, as well as the assessment and management of natural resources.

Earth observation (EO) by satellite, airborne and drone-based remote sensing is a valuable and powerful tool for detecting and monitoring various features of the Earth’s environment. It can be made a key component of decision-making process and business intelligence in different industries. Nevertheless, strong effort is still required to foster EO take-up by the public sector and businesses. That includes awareness raising regarding the benefits of the EO data and services and building trust in new technologies.

Knowledgeable and educated public policy leaders, company owners and top-level managers are important players to facilitate the use of EO data and information products. Therefore, IES provides support for key decision-makers to raise the awareness of Earth observation and Remote Sensing technology use for decision making in private and public sectors.
