Institute for Environmental Solutions (IES) announces the launch of Latvian selection for Young Artists Biennale – Jeune Création Européenne (JCE). The open call invites Latvian artists aged 30 and under to submit their works of contemporary art. Deadline: 25th of March, 2017.
During the first – national selection, the jury of art experts and professionals will select eight most talented young artists from Latvia to participate the international competition and join the travelling contemporary art exhibition. The exhibition will travel through the art galleries and centres visiting each of the partaking countries – France, Poland, Denmark, Latvia, Czech Republic, Rumania, Italia, Portugal, Spain. In August 2018 the artworks will be displayed in Science, Art and Gastronomy Centre “Brewery” in Cēsis, Latvia.
After the second – international selection, in October, 2017 the prestigious jury will announce three most talented artists from all partaking countries who will receive Grand Prix. The award includes scholarships and six-month paid artist residency in Paris. In previous Biennale one of the three award winners was Latvian painter Klāvs Loris.
The JCE Biennale started in 2000 in Montrouge, Paris. It is a collaboration between European cities with a common desire to support the work of young artists. The aim of the JCE Biennale is to provide a launching platform for young emerging artists to boost their international visibility. This will be the 9th edition of Biennale, Latvia part for the second time. Latvia’s involvement is based on the partnership between Institute for Environmental Solutions and Kaņepes Culture Centre.
