Gabrielle Felury and Andrea Ponsini – the representatives from Montrouge municipality sent their greetings to Cesis and Latvian new artists. They emphasized that Cēsis and Latvia are wonderful places for contemporary cultural and artistic events. However, Gundars Skudriņš, the owner of Science, Art, and Gastronomy Centre BRŪZIS, expressed his honor that the organizers have chosen Cesis as one of the exhibitions’ stops. “Perhaps nowadays people don’t talk much about these real values or about the origin of the spirit, but obviously the main curators of Biennale have felt this infinite energy that arises here in Cesis Old Brewery,” Gundars mentioned in his speech.

JCE Biennale was developed in 2000 by the Montrouge municipality, Paris. It is above all a network linking different European cities concerned with promoting the work of their country’s young artists, as well as allowing the artists’ cultural actions to be known beyond their borders. Once the artworks of each country have been selected, the JCE Biennale takes the shape of a large traveling collective exhibit which lies down in each of the partner cities over the course of two consecutive years, covering 5850 km distance. The Brewery will be the third stop of the JCE Biennale 2017 – 2019 traveling exhibition. Afterward, it will continue its journey to Cluj-Napoca in Romania.
